For anyone who likes light textures, especially during the hot, humid summer. Fluid grape seed oil is the base for a scalp massage with tea tree, then tames frizz on the lengths. Light, fresh aloe vera gel goes on the body or face.

Tea tree is for adults only, on the scalp and body, never on the face. Patch test before first use. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, ask a health professional.

The 3-step protocol

You will need

  • 1 to 2 drops of tea tree oil
  • 1 tablespoon of grape seed oil, plus a few drops for the lengths

Steps

  1. Scalp: before washing, mix 1 to 2 drops of tea tree oil into 1 tablespoon of grape seed oil. Massage for 2 minutes, leave on for 30 minutes, then wash.

Frequently asked questions

Can I put tea tree oil on my face?

No. Tea tree oil is for the scalp and body, for adults only. Keep it away from eyes, ears and mouth, and never swallow it.

Does this ritual suit oily skin?

For oily skin, the American Academy of Dermatology recommends oil-free products. Aloe vera gel has a light texture; if you add an oil, use a few drops on dry areas only, after a patch test.

How should I store tea tree oil?

Tightly closed, away from light and heat. If its smell changes, stop using it: an oxidised oil is more likely to trigger allergies.
